How to use this comparison

Compounded medicines are created for an individual patient under a prescription and are not FDA-approved. They can be appropriate in particular circumstances, but they have not gone through the FDA approval process for safety, effectiveness, or manufacturing quality.

Do not compare only by ingredient count

A four-ingredient product is not automatically more effective than a single approved drug. Combining sildenafil, tadalafil, vardenafil, apomorphine, oxytocin, or bremelanotide changes the risk and evidence discussion. Use the prescriber, not marketing language, to determine whether a custom formula makes sense.
